The Castaway
Caroline creates botanical casts from plaster using flowers and foliage. Casting preserves the natural beauty of plants enabling the form and structure of the different parts to be really seen and appreciated.
Details are picked up by the clay into which she presses the plant material to create a mould for the plaster. She works with single specimens focussing on their individuality and also with different plants together such as meadow flowers and grasses. Caroline tailors the size of the casts to suit the individual plants. She also frames some of her work in handmade frames using reclaimed wood.
