HuPa Linocuts
Matt Hooper is a linocut and woodcut printmaker from Leeds who’s relief printmaking focusses on fine detail, careful composition and attention to detail inspired by the Japanese woodblock traditions of Moku-Hanga, Shin Hanga and Sōsaku Hanga.
He rejects the common perception that linocut is naive and seeks to introduce the detail and fine line the Japanese woodblock masters achieved whilst retaining the traditional spirit of European relief printmaking. Matt is working to master the Hangito Knife to achieve even greater detail and finesse, working primarily in Magnolia wood.
His themes are wide-ranging but focussed primarily on the natural world.
