5Ry Gibson – Moss Artist
BD18 3AX
1 Salts Mews hosting work by Ry Gibson place of the advertised artist Jo Walton, who due to unforeseen circumstances, is unable to exhibit in the Open Village. Thanks to Ry for stepping in at the last minute!
Ry’s moss work is inspired by their observation of community, connection and infection throughout the pandemic.
They noticed a similarity between the way fungi share information, knowledge and diseases through mycelium and mycorrhizal networks across the forest floor, linking plant and tree roots into a network of interconnectedness. Their work is an exploration of this in small form, using tactile material and yarns.
Ry received a Micro Grant for disabled artists from Bradford 2025 and Unlimited which has enabled them to buy two new looms, books and a 1-2-1 tutorial with a local maker along with yarn for the weavings.
Made with yarns from the Bradford district, Ry weaves a web of threads that bind communities visually mirrored by the fungi, mycelium and mycorrhizal networks.
