When Debi looks at a scene, she immediately speculates about what is going on. She is fascinated by the ways people relate to each other and the world they live in. The wide-ranging mixture of Yorkshire’s industrial and rural landscape provides endless scope for visual storytelling. The artist may direct attention with colour and tone, but each observer will see a slightly different story, relevant to their own lived experiences. For Debi that is the excitement of making and exhibiting work, whether it’s representational or abstract.
