8Emily J Parkin
Emily applies the traditional craft of marquetry in abstract form to express her creative vision. The colourful, sometimes conceptual, pieces are inspired by her love of Industrial Yorkshire. The interplay between the natural environment and human-made structures, is communicated through the choice of material and thematic elements. Emily loves experimenting with challenging colour combinations and seeing how considered colour application can provide alternative perspectives of the familiar.
“My work reflects the shapes and styles of nineteenth-century architecture and machinery. A love of museums, history and architecture has a direct link to my work, where shapes of oily levers, wheels, buttons, or stone corbels can often be picked out. The shapes, smells, weight and grandeur of the impressive designs from the Victorian era have always appealed to me”.
Emily will also be exhibiting work at location 13, 21 Mary St (window).
