11Mark Douglas (Resident Artist)
22 William Henry St
Mark’s work often takes the form of strong portraits with a close focus on the human face and expressive use of colour rather than an attempt to render a photographic likeness. Abstract compositions are often small-scale and are usually inspired by music. He responds in the moment with marks and colours which will often be painted over, but not obscured, like a palimpsest. His graphic works built out of dots and lines are the opposite of the paintings in their far more meticulous, detailed character. Themes of age and nature are prominent in all of his work.
