Old Brewery Pottery, Keighley
*Please note that the Old Brewery Pottery will be exhibiting on Saturday ONLY*
Mary North produces handthrown bowls and vases which are Raku Fired. The Copper Matt pots have very little glass in the glaze, so the surface texture resembles velvet. The colours are produced by a thin layer of copper oxide reflecting light, thin film interference producing a spectrum of colours. The dark smoky background and colours remind her of the Northern Lights.
Her new work includes Horsehair Raku. Combustable material is used to pattern pottery, straight from the raku kiln, at a high temperature. She is painting with smoke.
