Old Brewery Pottery
Mary North is a ceramic artist, living and working in Keighley. All her work is handthrown and raku fired. She is well known for her turquoise pottery, which has a strong copper lustre. The copper matte pottery has very little glass in the glaze, which produces a surface texture that resembles velvet. The dark smoky background and flame patterns remind her of the Northern Lights.
Recently Mary has been using all sorts of combustible materials on her pots, which ignite and pattern the surface. Feathers and Horsehair work well. It is like painting with smoke.
BRADFORD-BASED ARTIST: Our programme always features a wealth of locally-based talent, and we are especially proud to champion local artists this year, as we celebrate Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture.
