“Just the clothes on their backs: bear witness” is a clothesline. Pegged on the line are panels of silk fluttering in the moving air. Full size images of clothing are printed on the panels and, on the clothing, images of migration.
Many migrants travel with ‘just the clothes on their backs’. Imagine the clothes could talk. This installation bears witness to what the clothes have seen.
The images float in the air on diaphanous silk. Some are muted as these memories are difficult to deal with. The viewer needs to approach the work and look carefully to see the evidence.
