Penny is a contemporary sculptor, artist and teacher based in York. Her work explores British wildlife, conveying the beauty, fragility, and vulnerability of her subject matter. Lock down allowed her a brief sojourn to explore a series of primate studies, however British wildlife has always remained central to her practice.
Penny creates her pieces from heavily grogged terracotta. She uses a limited palette of slips, oxides, and paint to create depth. Penny strives to retain the raw nature of clay with heavily textured surfaces. Her work captures the spontaneity and spirit of her subjects through considered gestures, movement, and expression.
