Katie makes every individual piece by hand using slow, hand-building processes and also throwing on the wheel. She rarely makes two of the same pieces as she is continuously developing with each creation. Katie hopes eac piece will be treasured for years as they are made to last, in aspiration that people buy less and consider the making process whilst using their piece.
Katie’s practice takes a sustainable and experimental approach, working with mixed and reclaimed clays through techniques such as nerikomi and agateware. Using both handbuilding and wheel-throwing, she creates functional and decorative pieces that reference rocky surfaces and natural forms. Using minimal glaze allows the clay itself to express layered patterns, textures, and tones. Each work balances functionality with sculptural qualities, highlighting the raw beauty of the material and the value of resourceful making.
