2016 Mary Street (by Rydals Museum)
For the fourth year, our friends at Rydal’s Museum (formerly a Mill) in Sweden have sent a window for our Living Advent Calendar. Their creation uses images of traditional Swedish Christmas decorations made of paper, called ”tomteparad” (gnome parade). These were common in Sweden from the 1940s to 1960s and were placed on the windowsill. The print was on both sides of the paper so they could be seen from the inside as well as the outside of the window. The window shows two different ”tomteparad” along with a Happy Christmas greeting from all the participants of ”Lysande fönster i Rydal” to all the people of Saltaire. Lysande fönster i Rydal is an advent calendar, arranged by Rydals museum, which was inspired by the Saltaire Living Advent Calendar and takes place in the windows of the old spinning mill in Rydal.
Thanks so much to the team at Rydals Museum for this wonderful addition to our trail. Sending Season’s Greetings and very best wishes to you all in Sweden!
