Mark Butler

Mark creates work in cast bronze, steel and mixed media painting. He casts his own work and often harnesses chance by using thin wax originals, or wood which is not fully burnt out. This creates imperfect and fractured pieces that make a solid permanent material seem fragile and in the process of disintegrating. He uses this in his work to mirror the impermanence and vulnerability of the environment around him.
His inspiration comes from the fragments of remembered views and experiences built up by travelling through his local landscape, or from the examination of natural forms under a microscope.
