Julia Linstead, Glass
Julia designs and decorates colourful handblown lead crystal bowls with sandblasted decoration. She is inspired by the flora and fauna found near her studio in the Scottish Borders; her designs evolve from pot to pot, inside and outside of the piece and result in each bowl being unique.
The glass is blown with at least one layer of coloured glass which Julia uses to etch her patterns into the bowl. By covering the bowl in a resist, she can draw and cut an original stencil which she gradually removes to sandblast more or less of the colour from the glass.
