Jessica Robinson
Jessica is a student on the MA Visual Art Course. Her mixed media work responds to the themes of follicular racism, mixed cultural identity and heritage.
Focused on textured hair, she discovered its agency. After completing a DNA testing sample, Jessica began searching DNA matches and connecting with family in Jamaica. She made links with within her biological family to further understand her genetic identity and her heritage that for the first eight years of her life she knew nothing about. The further into the search the more she discovered a feeling of disconnection. This body of work documents the progress made whilst finding the reasons for the feeling of disconnection and the invaluable relationships made with biological family.
